| 70's tiffany by chopard This is a Tiffany & Co. hand-wound watch, Carré, Rectangular, Tank watch, believed to have been manufactured in the 1960s or 70s. Tiffany & Co. is a luxury jewelry store founded in 1837 in New York City. The name Tiffany & Co. is associated with jewelry and not so much with timepieces. Tiffany also sold watches for a long time, but Hamilton and MOVADO were in charge of manufacturing watches in the 40's and 50's. Around the 60's, other Swiss brands started manufacturing watches. From around the 1960s, Tiffany began to commission other Swiss brands to manufacture their watches, and you may have seen Rolex and Patek watches double-named Tiffany & Co. Tiffany & Co. had commissioned other brands to manufacture watches as well, such as Patek. This is the model shown here. This watch is manufactured by Chopard (L.U.C Louis-Ulysse Chopard). It is a very rare model that is rarely seen in the market. Chopard also has an image of a jewelry store, but it is a so-called manufacture that has been producing its own movements for a long time. It may be that Tiffany & Co. outsourced its dress watches to Chopard in order to compete with Cartier. (Piaget was manufacturing watches for Cartier, so they could not have commissioned Piaget.) Below is a list of Chopard tanks made by Chopard under the Tiffany name only that were sold long ago. Here is such a rare Tiffany name hand-wound watch with a rectangular case (tonneau case) that appears to have been manufactured in the 1960s. It has a similar feel to Cartier's Gondolo, with an impressive step bezel and stepped bezel. The combination of a black onyx dial without any waste and gold dauphine hands (dolphin hands) creates a classical atmosphere. The case material is, of course, solid 18k gold and 18k yellow gold. The movement and case are all manufactured by Chopard and are stamped Chopard. The movement is carefully beveled and very beautifully finished. It is equipped with a chiaroscuro screw balance and a seismic isolator, so there are no problems with its practical use. The most notable feature of this watch is its simple yet modern and beautiful design. The size of the watch is a very rare men's size, which is one size larger than the LM size of Tank Normale and Santos Dumont watches from the 1970s. It is a good size for women as well as for men. |
