The Monterey II is one of the most distinctive vintage watches ever produced by Louis Vuitton, created during the late 1980s when the brand had not yet fully entered the world of modern watchmaking. This model belongs to the short but important period when Louis Vuitton collaborated with IWC (International Watch Company), which explains the surprisingly high level of technical quality compared to most fashion-house watches of the time. Because of this partnership, the Monterey series is often regarded as one of the few early Louis Vuitton watches that can truly be considered collectible.

The Monterey II is instantly recognizable for its unconventional design. The perfectly round case, the crown positioned at 12 o’clock, and the multi-scale dial layout give the watch a very modern and almost industrial aesthetic, far ahead of typical luxury watches from the same era. The dial features an outer calendar ring combined with a clean Arabic numeral display, creating a technical yet playful look that reflects late-1980s design experimentation.

Unlike later Louis Vuitton watches, the Monterey line was produced in relatively small numbers, and many examples did not survive in good condition. Because of this, well-preserved pieces have become increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate unusual designs and early collaborations between luxury fashion houses and serious Swiss watchmakers.

Today, the Monterey II stands as a fascinating reminder of the time when Louis Vuitton was still exploring its identity in watchmaking, resulting in a model that feels both experimental and refined. Its unique case construction, distinctive dial, and historical connection to IWC make it one of the most interesting and collectible vintage Louis Vuitton watches available.
