Product Description
This watch is a classic model produced around 1989 by the legendary designer Gérald Genta, under his own eponymous brand.
Genta is widely celebrated as the creator of some of the most iconic luxury sports watches ever made, including the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. However, alongside these groundbreaking designs, his own brand also produced a number of refined and artistic dress watches such as this piece.
This model features a 36mm round case with a quartz movement. For a dress watch of the late 1980s, this was considered a relatively generous size, and even by modern standards it remains extremely well-proportioned. The smooth, rounded case profile and minimal bezel create a sense of understated elegance characteristic of Genta's refined design language.
The most distinctive element of this watch is its deep red enamel dial.
Enamel is created by repeatedly firing glass powder at extremely high temperatures, a labor-intensive technique that results in a surface with exceptional depth and permanence. Unlike standard painted dials, enamel maintains its color and luster for decades. Depending on the light, the dial shifts subtly between rich wine red and darker crimson tones, giving it remarkable visual depth.
The dial is completed with classical Roman numerals, reinforcing the watch's elegant and timeless character.
The overall aesthetic feels closer to a refined jewelry watch than to the sporty designs for which Genta is best known.
During the 1980s, watches produced under the Gérald Genta name were manufactured in relatively limited quantities. Models featuring enamel dials are particularly uncommon, making examples like this quietly appreciated among collectors.
This watch represents another side of Gérald Genta's creative vision—an expression of classical elegance and craftsmanship from one of the most influential designers in modern watchmaking.
