Product Description
Audemars Piguet Octagonal Watch – Pre-Royal Oak Era with Aventurine-Style Dial

A rare 1970s Audemars Piguet octagonal case watch, representing the important design period just before the introduction of the Royal Oak.
Pieces like this belong to what collectors often refer to as the pre-Royal Oak era, when Audemars Piguet was already experimenting with geometric case shapes that would later define the brand's modern identity.

Before the Royal Oak was in 1972, Audemars Piguet produced a number of elegant dress watches with multi-faceted and octagonal cases, and this model clearly released that transitional design language.
Rather than the sporty construction of the Royal Oak, the watch retains the refined proportions of a classic ultra-thin dress watch, while still showing the brand's early interest in architectural forms.

The softly rounded octagonal case gives the watch a distinctive presence without being overly aggressive, a characteristic typical of high-end Swiss dress watches from the early 1970s.

The dial features a shimmering aventurine-style textured finish, creating a sparkling surface that changes depending on the light.
This type of decorative dial was occasionally used by Audemars Piguet during the 1970s, reflecting the strong influence of jewelry watch design during that period.

Vintage Audemars Piguet watches from this era were produced in very small numbers, and examples combining
• Pre-Royal Oak production
• Octagonal case
• Gold case
• textured aventurine-like dial

are rarely encountered today.

More than just a dress watch, this piece represents an important moment in Audemars Piguet's design history, showing the aesthetic direction that ultimately led to the creation of the Royal Oak.

A highly collectible vintage AP from the transitional period of the early 1970s.
